Selling Sucks. Got Marketing?

i_0238There are few things women hate more than a cheesy sales pitch.  Whether it’s a guy in a bar, or a guy selling a car, if the line sounds canned and generic, the product probably is too.  The same is true in business.

However you probably have a great story about a guy who did something crazy just to meet you. A man once ran out of a coffee shop and chased me down the street leaving his laptop and wallet behind just to introduce himself to me. I can assure you, that guy got my number and even though he ended up being a total pervert, it was romantic and remarkable, and I’ll never forget the introduction.

Just like epic pickup lines, sales, when approached in a meaningful way that’s authentic and targeted, isn’t sales at all. Its just really good marketing.  Your well-defined audience will be more receptive to an experience or opportunity that is valuable or memorable, so you’ll never have to put that cheesy sales hat on.  Let your marketing sell for you.

Digital Pink is the pervert with the great pitch.  Okay, we’re not actually perverted, and the product is just as good (heck its way better) than this pitch.   Spamy marketing and pop-up ads of people exposing their belly cellulite are not strategies for long-term brand success.  Creating a place for like-minded people to connect and share their common interest might make you a micro-tribal-leading-rock-star.  Build a small, but mighty following and you will never have to sell to them.

If this sounds like the way you want to do business, or promote yourself to your market, then consider connecting to this tribe.  You’ll be in good company.
